Downtown Sao Paulo

Seeing the sun going up strongly out of my window, always represent a burden for me. Living in a huge city you must take the urban equipment as an extension of your home and your apartment as the place where you sleep and stay in when it’s raining.

Unlike the past, now, this is where I sleep, also a place for leisure and labor. The 30 Sq. Ft. became our world. Undoubtedly, this is not an easy rule to be followed.

Yesterday, I picked as my “Freedom Friday”. It was about 5 PM and I decided that we need to buy coffee and see the sun out there. Along with my wife Tati and my son Oliver, we got the car and went to one of my favorites places: Downtown Sao Paulo.

It’s a place that I use to go skateboarding, at least once a week. It has a nice architecture and an interesting vibe. The energy of a huge city.

Yesterday, was quite different. It looks more like a holiday, almost empty, with few people here and there. What it was crazier for me, was to see people living a normal life during these chaotic times, it makes me question if we are doing right.

I can imagine how terrible is to have to leave your home being part of the higher risk group.

I saw people skating at one of my favorites spots, the municipal theatre of Sao Paulo, riding bicycles and jogging at Paulista Avenue. It was a really distressing image, even more, after being locked for at least 15 days at my apartment.

The only way to survive this is to using logic and believing in science. Every morning I tried to read the news, and it helps me to see the big picture. The masks situation it’s a clear demonstration of the effort of democratic nations trying to control the population.

Firstly, they announce that it wasn’t required the use of masks for non-contaminated people. Undoubtedly, at that time, if they advise the entire planet to start wearing masks, people would start to hurt each other for masks. It’s clear that there are not enough masks for the entire planet.

Although, after a week, some good clever souls, remembered that once upon a time, the masks were sued at home and not like those N95 of something technology. So cleverly the announce that using a home-made mask would be a nice idea to protect yourself and protect the others.

This is a highway that crosses downtown Sao Paulo — It would be impossible to see something similar to this in a Friday, 5PM.

This is a story that will be developed during the weeks, months, perhaps years. My best hope is that soon the scientists, the government would found a way to free us, at least, in parts or something similar, so we experience what we considered one day life, even do if this is would be just part of what we considered life.

To be clear. Using this example of using masks, I’m not saying to follow government orientations. It’s was just to exemplify how the government is dealing with so many variables in this pandemic. The best advice that I could give is to stay home and try to be informed by the professional news outlets.
